Peachr is a dating and social app for gay, bi, trans and queer guys in Australia. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. In it, "Peachr", "we" and "us" mean the people who run Peachr.
We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version
You choose what goes on your profile. Health details are hidden unless you choose to show them.
Nobody sees your exact location. Other people see a rounded distance, or just "Nearby" if you hide it.
We don’t sell your information and Peachr has no ads.
Moderators only read a chat if someone in it reports it and chooses to include the chat.
Verification selfies are deleted as soon as they’ve been checked.
You can delete your account in the app at any time, and your information is deleted with it.
Information you give us
Account: your email address and password. Passwords are stored by our sign-in provider as a one-way hash, so nobody can read them.
Profile: display name, date of birth (others see your age, not the date), area, bio and photos, plus anything else you choose to add: height, weight, body type, position, ethnicity, relationship status, languages, gender, pronouns, tribes, what you’re looking for, where you like to meet, tags and whether you accept NSFW pictures.
Health details, if you add them: HIV status, when you last tested, health practices and vaccinations.
What you send: chat messages, photos, view-once photos, voice messages, GIFs, locations and meeting spots, and private album shares.
Your private album photos and who you’ve shared them with.
Feed activity: posts, photos, comments, likes, follows and follow requests.
Taps, blocks and reports, including what you write in a report and, if you choose, your chat with the person you report.
Verification: the live selfie you take and the pose you were asked to copy.
Your settings, such as privacy and notification choices.
Anything you send us by email.
Sensitive information
Some information on Peachr is "sensitive information" under Australian privacy law. Using Peachr suggests your sexual orientation, and you might also add health details (like HIV status), your ethnicity or other personal details.
We only collect this because you choose to use Peachr and to add it. When you create an account and add these details, you consent to us handling them as this policy describes. You can change or remove them at any time in Edit profile, and you can hide any detail from your profile with the eye next to it. Health details are hidden until you choose to show them.
We never use sensitive information for advertising, and we never sell it.
Information collected automatically
Location: if you allow it, the app sends your phone’s location so we can work out distances and show guys nearby. We keep only your latest location, not a history. Other people see a rounded distance, or "Nearby" if you turn on Hide my exact distance. They never see your exact location. If you send your approximate location in a chat, it’s rounded to about 1 km.
Activity: when you were last active (to show who’s online), who viewed your profile (for Viewed me), and when someone takes a screenshot of a chat (shown in that chat if the other person has screenshot alerts on).
Device: a push notification token for your phone, and its platform (iPhone or Android).
Technical logs: our hosting provider records technical information such as IP addresses and request times to keep Peachr secure and working. These logs are kept for a short time.
We don’t use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
Information that stays on your phone
Safe date details (the place, your check-in time, and your trusted friend’s name and phone number) are stored only on your phone. Texts to your friend are sent from your own Messages app. Peachr’s servers never receive them.
Your Nearby filters.
How we use your information
To run Peachr: create your account, show your profile to others according to your settings, show guys nearby, deliver messages and send notifications.
To keep people safe: check verification selfies, review reports, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and stop spam, scams and fake accounts.
For paid features: Peachr+ and Boost. Payments go through Apple or Google. We find out that you paid, but we never see your card details.
To contact you: account emails (like confirming your email or resetting your password) and replies when you contact us.
To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We don’t sell personal information and we don’t share it with advertisers.
Who can see your information
Other Peachr users can see the profile details you choose to show, your photos (blurred until you message them, if you turn that on), your age, area, rounded distance, whether you’re online and whether you’re verified. They can see your posts if your posts are public, or if they’re an approved follower when your posts are private. They see what you send them in chats, taps you send them, and that you viewed their profile (free members see the two most recent viewers; Peachr+ members see all of them).
Other users never see your email address, date of birth, exact location, hidden details, notification settings, whether you have Peachr+, or your verification selfie.
Peachr moderators can see profiles and posts that have been reported, a chat only when the person reporting it chooses to include it, verification selfies while they’re being checked, and account and moderation history. Moderators only look at what they need to.
Service providers that help us run Peachr (listed below).
Police and other authorities, if the law requires it, or if we reasonably believe it’s necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone’s life, health or safety.
If Peachr is ever sold or merged, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who must keep protecting it as this policy says. We’ll tell you first.
Service providers
We use these providers. Each only gets what it needs, and we choose providers that protect information to the same standard as this policy.
Supabase: our database, file storage, sign-in and server functions. Your profile, messages and files are stored in Sydney, Australia.
Expo (650 Industries, USA): sends push notifications to Apple and Google. It receives your phone’s push token and the notification text. By default, notifications only say "You have a new message", with no names or message text.
Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver notifications to your phone.
GIPHY (USA): when you search for GIFs, your search words are sent to GIPHY.
Apple and Google map services: maps in chats, and turning a location into a suburb name, use your phone’s map services.
Apple App Store and Google Play: process payments for Peachr+ and Boost.
Our email delivery provider: sends account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password resets.
Information sent overseas
Our main database and your files are stored in Australia. Some providers above (such as Expo, GIPHY, Apple and Google) are based in, or may handle information from, the United States and other countries where they operate. We take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account is open.
When you delete your account, we immediately delete your account, profile, photos, private album, messages (for both people in the chat), posts, comments, likes, follows, taps, profile views and files you uploaded. Copies may stay in backups and logs for a short time (generally up to 30 days) before they’re removed.
Reports other people made about your account may be kept for at least 12 months for safety and legal reasons, even after you delete your account.
Verification selfies are deleted as soon as a moderator has reviewed them, or when you delete your account.
When you unsend a message, it’s removed for both of you, along with any photo or voice file.
View-once photos can only be opened once by the person you send them to. The file stays stored until you unsend the photo or delete your account.
Your location is replaced each time it updates. We don’t keep a location history.
Push tokens are removed when you sign out, or when your phone stops accepting Peachr notifications.
Your choices and rights
Change or remove profile details at any time in Edit profile, and hide any detail with the eye next to it.
Use privacy settings in Me: hide your exact distance, blur your photos until you chat, make your posts private, turn off screenshot alerts, and keep notification previews off.
Turn off location access in your phone’s settings (Nearby won’t work without it).
Block anyone. They can’t see you, message you or tap you, and they aren’t told.
Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct it, by emailing us. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Delete your account at any time in Me → Delete account.
Withdraw consent for sensitive information by removing it from your profile, or by deleting your account.
If you have a privacy complaint, contact us first at support@peachr.app. If you’re not happy with our answer, or we don’t reply within 30 days, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Security
Information is encrypted between the app and our servers. Database rules control exactly who can read each piece of information, photos and files are stored privately and shared through short-lived links, and moderator access is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you and the OAIC as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Peachr is for adults
You must be 18 or older to use Peachr. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete accounts we find that belong to someone under 18. If you think someone on Peachr is under 18, please report their profile.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are important, we’ll tell you in the app before they apply.
